  • Albania: weaknesses of a nation in dilemma

    The centre-right government led by Sali Berisha has achieved notable results in domestic politics, particularly regarding the fight against corruption, a rather structural problem in Albanian society. Yet, the level of bickering between Government and opposition remains high, and risks jeopardising the country on its way to integration into transatlantic and European society. One of the few points of convergence remains support over the independence of Kosovo. The election of a new Head of State, Bamir Topi, number two in line within the governing party, has cancelled the likelihood of an early run to the ballots.
