    Sarkozy's era in France has begun: born to Hungarian immigrants, the newly elected French president reached the Elysée with a solid majority in Parliament, relying on a programme of economic reforms aiming to catapult the economy and tackle unemployment. The programme's goal is to spark a boost in public confidence, thus favouring consumption, much like what occurred in the United States under Ronald Reagan. As government plans are not unlikely to face resistance from the union opposition, the main question for Paris now boils down to how to finance such reforms.
